A Peek into My Other Hobbies
I haven't updated my blog much in a while, partly because I've been so busy lately. I've been cleaning up and reorganizing my doll room, volunteering at the Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls & Toys, and... working on my novel.
For those who don't already know this about me, I have three main hobbies in my life: dolls, of course, but also horses and writing. (Note that two out of three of those hobbies are expensive...)
As part of my writing hobby, I've been involved with National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) as a participant for about 18 years, and a volunteer Municipal Liaison (fancy speak for organizer and local event coordinator) for my region for about 9. Over the extended holiday weekend (yesterday, July 4th, through Sunday, July 7th) we have a community table for the Denver region of NaNoWriMo at Fan Expo Denver.
Of course, my hobbies aren't that well separated, so I will have a different doll in a different cosplay with me every day. Wednesday when we set up, I had Bristol, my Smart Doll pear body Marvel, cosplaying as Wonder Woman in her blue dress. The dress is the wrong color blue and too short, but it still works so well, don't you think? I even have her sword (a hair stick) down the back of her dress!
Yesterday I brought another Wonder Woman - Kavi Sharma, American Girl's Girl of the Year for 2023, dressed up as Wonder Woman. This outfit is actually a repeat, as I brought a Truly Me 25 dressed in this costume about five years ago, back when this con was Denver Pop Culture Con. (Or maybe even back when it was Denver Comic Con, before they changed their name.)
Kavi makes a way better Wonder Woman than TM 25 did! She's perfect!
And yes, I'm in a coordinating Wonder Woman shirt. T-shirts are about the only way I cosplay these days; otherwise, it's all my dolls dressing up.
Speaking of which, Kavi's fabulous costume was on Amazon a little while back and I can't find it anymore, which is too bad because I really want to try to alter one to fit a pear body Smart Doll! It's already very close so I don't think it would take much to make it work.
I'll have a different doll and a different cosplay with me every day. Today it's my Smart Doll Deborah, who I named Bailey, dressed up as Rey from Star Wars.
If you're in Denver, come see us!
Kavi wishes everyone a belated happy Fourth of July!
